The painting & decorating process — 4 steps to perfect walls

Scraping — removing old coatings

Scraping is the first and most important step. Old paint, wallpaper and damaged plaster must be fully removed before any further work. Troffel uses professional scrapers and machines that remove old layers without damaging the underlying surface. A clean surface is the prerequisite for quality skim coating. After scraping, the surface is cleared of dust and debris. This step exposes cracks, damp patches and structural defects that need fixing before we move on.

Skim coating — levelling walls and ceilings

Skim coating turns a rough, uneven substrate into a perfectly smooth surface ready for painting. Skim compound fills every imperfection, crack and plasterboard joint. Troffel applies skim compound in two or three layers, depending on the state of the substrate. Priming — base coat

Priming is the step many people skip — and exactly the one that ensures the durability of the final coat. Primer penetrates the substrate and creates a bond between the skim compound and the paint. Without primer, paint absorbs unevenly. In some places the wall looks matt, in others it looks shiny. Primer eliminates that difference. Troffel uses acrylic and deep-penetrating primers depending on the substrate. Proper priming reduces final paint consumption and extends its lifespan.

Painting — final finish

Painting is the final step that determines the visual impression of the space. Troffel uses high-quality dispersion paints from leading manufacturers — washable, scratch-resistant and colour-stable. We apply paint with rollers and brushes in two coats. For sharp edges we use professional masking tape. Each coat is dried per the manufacturer's instructions before the next is applied.
